Hydrology and Water Resources

The Department of Hydrology and Water Resources along with the Hydrology and Water Resources Student Association (HWRSA) are co-hosting the 19th Annual Hydrology Research Symposium, “El Dia del Agua,” on March 26, 2009. This event is a symposium of oral and poster presentations of Hydrology and Water Resources’ Student research. We plan to have 10 student speakers during the day long event, as well as many exciting posters to view. Monetary awards are presented for the best student presentations. The symposium will be held at the Student Union’s North and South Ballrooms. The symposium begins at 8 a.m. and includes a lunch at 12 p.m. Our luncheon speaker is Department of Hydrology & Water Resources Alumni Charles “Chuck” George, Jr., Chief Meteorologist for KOLD TV News 13. Following lunch both Oral Presentations and Posters will continue. Our afternoon keynote speaker is Dr. Eric Barron, Director, National Center for Atmospheric Research, NCAR. Registration is $35 and includes lunch. Your attendance is highly valued as students look forward to presenting material and meeting with professionals in the field throughout the course of the day. El Dia del Agua is held in the North & South Ballrooms, upstairs (third floor) of the Student Union Memorial Building. For those coming from off campus, here are directions to the Student Union (1303 E University Blvd, Tucson) and to the University of Arizona campus.

Prospective and Visiting Students

The Department of Hydrology and Water Resources encourages prospective incoming graduate students to visit our department for the day of El Dia del Agua and following-day meetings with the faculty. Classes in the department are cancelled on Thursday, and it is usually an excellent opportunity to meet most of the students and faculty in the department. Prospective students should meet with faculty as a group during the “meet and greet” breakfast the following Friday, as well as meeting with them individually throughout the day. The HWR Student Association (HWRSA) is planning to have student social functions on Thursday and Friday, geared toward prospective students. These would be a great way to talk with the current students in a more relaxed environment.
